There is nothing like a New Year to make you re-evaluate your goals and plans for the coming 12 months.
The whole community are focusing on two things Goals and Planners. And I have to admit that I was very excited to start using my 2019 Hobonichi. I spent time thinking about what I want to accomplish in the next 12 months and what direction that I want 2019 to go in.
It’s time to set your intentions for 2019 but where do you start how to make sure that you are staying on track and what if the goal isn’t working. How will you be making sure that you end 2019 having accomplished what you wanted?
Well I am going to try and help.
New Year goals
Start by looking at last years goals, did you finish them? Did you start them, or did you get to June and drop them?
Make sure that you are reviewing last year goals and taking cues from them or building on them. Maybe you need to rethink them and set new ones.
Also don’t fall into the trap of coping other peoples goals. Use them as inspiration to dig deep into your own goals.
New Year planner
Everyone loves a new planner and the new year is the best excuse to crack open a fresh book full of possibilities.
Make sure that you are spending the time to go through each of the sections in your planner. If you don’t want to commit pen to paper just yet then grab a bit of paper and a pen and do it that way. Or grab a pencil and pencil in what you are wanting to do.
Breaking it down
Once you know what your goals are for the year make sure that you are breaking them down and creating a plan as to how you are going to achieve the goal.
The best way to do this is to do a mind map of all the things that feed into that goal and what you are wanting to achieve.
Review every month
Now that you have broken your goals down into manageable chunks and you know how you are going to get it done it’s time to get to work. But how will you know if you are on track.
End of week/month reviews are some of the best things that you can to ensure that you are moving forward with your goals rather then just setting and forgetting.
Ask yourself about the next steps that you need to do to ensure that you are doing small steps to move that goal forward and not stagnate in the day to day.
I have found the best way to move things forward is to make the next actionable step as small as possible and make that a priority either for the week or for the month.
